Trout Opener

I was able to fly fish on the Paint Creek this weekend. I have fished up at the Rochester Municpal park, but I did not realize how nice some of the areas of the Paint Creek are. I actually heard a couple fish rise, but I did not see anything. One complaint I have is that while the Paint Creek Trail allows easy access to the stream, it also allows people (most of which are intent on asking you how well you are fishing) that same access. I was friendly and explained that I was having fun, but I will admit I like fishing when there is no one around for a reason – solitude.

Partial-birth abortion ban

While I tend to write mostly on fishing and useless random thoughts, when I stumble upon an article worthy of sharing I like to pass it on. I really don’t want build controversy and create a war of comments in my blog, but I do like to inform people of pertinent news and opinions.  With that said…

John Piper posted a blog entry regarding the recent Supreme Court decision that upholds a ban on partial-birth abortion, and it is well worth reading:

Trout Opener 2007

I think I may try to get out and try to fish this Saturday. The weatherman says 65 degrees with 10% chance of rain… sounds good.  Now what are my options…

The winter weather breaks

The weather this weekend was awesome.  No snow.  No humidty.  Not too hot.  Not too cold. Even though I enjoy the winter and the snow, I can appreciate this weather after months of gray skies.

With all the bad incidents that have went on within the last two weeks that have crowded all the media outlets, the nice weather has almost made this weekend feel like a calm after the storm.

The Spirit was moving at church today.  The whole weekend was restful and relaxing.  We are only six days from trout season.  My last regular master’s class ended this week.

This was a good weekend.  Thank you Lord.

10 more days

I just realized this morning that there are ten more days until trout fishing in Michigan is open again. Woot!

Hopefully, I can get out within the first couple of weeks of May and do some fishing.  I saw a post on one of the forums stating that the DNR may not be stocking fish this year because of whirling disease – I’ll have to do some more checking on that one.

In other news, after I found out my transmission was leaking fluid fairly good, I found my exact trans for sale, and I am getting a new (old) transmission this weekend.  Now I just have to figure out how to get it into the Jeep.   🙂

Home waters – April 6, 2007

Today Jen and I went to the park near the cider mill and she took river for a walk and I jumped in the river for about 30 minutes or so.  There are supposed to be steelhead moving, so I tried a purple egg sucking leech until it got stuck in a near by tree. I then swapped in a nuke egg and fished that until it also got stuck in a tree.  I think I need to practice my casting a bit.  I didn’t see anyone with a fish, and there were a bunch of folks fishing there.  The cool part was I saw several guys fly fishing.

It was very cold and snowing fairly decent, but we all had fun. You can also see my Jeep in the picture there.
